The weather is the main factor that dictates crowds. Typically the winter months starting around Halloween and ending around Easter are the best time to visit. Temperatures tend to be mild during this period. During summer months temps can rise up to 115 degrees during the day.

From October 1 to April 15 you will need a Paid Permit to visit. Follow the link to a shop locally to you to purchase permit. You can purchase a weekly or season pass. Season pass will be on permanently attached to the windshield and weekly pass will need to be scratched for up to 7 days and be displayed from mirror. During the Summer months it is free visit.

Glamis is a fist come first serve camping area. There are no reserved sites, sites with services, and is a dry camping area. You can camp on sand, on a pad, or in the washes, for more information click here- Where to Camp.

Glamis does not have any sites with hookups, water, or dump facilities that are accessible to the public. Plan accordingly to bring enough water and dump your tanks prior to arrival. there are several vendors that will pump your RV and you can buy fresh water from them.

Yes there is a Vendors row located by the Beach store on hwy 78. Selection is limited but they range from food, T-shirts, parts for your vehicle, Firewood, and several vendors provide labor to help fix your vehicle

Depending on your service provider you will have some connection. There will be spots in the dunes that will be no service. Busy weekends tend to be hard on carriers and service will suffer. Starlink seems to be the best solution to stay connected.

Vehicles

If your plan is to stay close to the road you will be able to get away with a 2 wheel drive vehicle. If you venture off road a 4 wheel drive is strongly suggested.

To be honest it is what works best for you. Glamis is a unique place where you will see 500$ vehicle having as much fun as a 350,000$ sand rail.

Paddles definitely help but are not necessary. Most 4 wheel drive vehicle with lowered air pressure will go most places.

In a Truck around 15-20lbs. In a SXS around 8-10psi for non paddles. This is a variable factor adjust and figure what works best. Running lowered air pressure depends on wheel and tire type. Certain tires and rims with Beadlocks will allow lower Psi and still be safe from damage. By lowering pressure the Idea is to get the vehicle to float on the sand.

Yes any vehicles that leave camp and hits the sand must have a flag mounted to the vehicle. It must be 8′ from the ground to the tip of the flag and be red or orange in color. Please see other Rules here

Jeeps with lowered tire pressure will be able to go most places in Glamis with proper line choice. Jeeps do very well in the bigger dunes behind Olds.

A Motorcycle with a paddle tire is one of the funnest vehicle in the dunes. You are able to carve the dunes, ride wheelies at will, and natural terrain jumps everywhere.

Camping

Technically YES. This is BLM land and you can, with minor limitations, camp just about anywhere. Please take a look at our Where to Camp Blog for the traditional spots people camp. BLM land does technically have a 14 day limit.

Per the BLM website you are not allowed to save spots. But since the beginning of time people save room for their friends. Just be respectful of others and dont put a ton of cones and yellow tape up. That will piss everyone off that drives by.

Along gecko rd, on the pads, loops, and cement flats YES. off the road NO. By the Store/Washes it is spotty at best. Have a plan before entering and have a friend help guide before you get into trouble. Many times you will need to lower air pressure in tires to improve traction and flotation. Or remove heavier vehicles from trailer prior to pulling through the soft sand to lower weight.

Glamis is open year round to visitors. Most people traveling to Glamis will visit during the milder winter months. After April temperatures will creep in the low 100 degrees and during peak summer months it will be 115+ degrees during the day. Finally cooling back down towards the end of October. Prime season is November thru March for visitors. During summer months there are not many visitors or vendors.

On Highway 86 you can pay at the Red earth casino and Arco. Along HWY 8 to San Diego there is a free Rest stop dump. heading east on HWY 8 the Sidewinder Chevron charges for dump. In Blythe there are several paid options before the 10 freeway. Options for dumping and be found here click here (per sanidumps)

Mobile vendors travel to you to provide water and septic dump. These come at a price as water is 1.00 per gallon and a full dump will be 40$. These prices may very per vendor but you get a rough idea. You can call them directly or they will travel gecko rd and the wash rd so you can flag them down for service.
